In the world of children, fantasy and reality often merge effortlessly. This is certainly the case when they set off in the surroundings of the Hondsrug. Here you will still come across gnomes, for example at Kabouterland in Exloo and the Kingdom of Gnomes in Eext. Let your child wander through mysterious caves and mysterious gnome woods!
There are also other fairytale figures in the Hondsrug. How about real cowboys and Indians in the play paradise Cowboy & Indians Speelreservaat in Coevorden? Close by is Plopsa Indoor Coevorden, where your child can shake hands with favourite television characters such as Maya the Bee, Mega Mindy and Wickie the Viking. Still can't get enough? 2. Excitement and sensation
There is also plenty to do for the older children on the Hondsrug. The area has several spectacular attractions that enjoy national fame. A good example is Wildlands Adventure ZOO Emmen, where your child experiences an unforgettable world expedition in one day.

3. History and culture
Drenthe and the area around the Hondsrug are known for the presence of dolmens. The Hunebedcentrum Borger is an interesting visit for parents and children too. Other cultural and historical activities can be found in the form of the Ellert and Brammert open-air museum in Schoonoord and the Veenpark in Barger-Campascuum. Get to know the rich (peat) history of southeast Drenthe and imagine yourself in the past for a while.
4. Explore the surroundings
Of course, there is much more to do on the Hondsrug. In this beautiful area, a bicycle or a pair of walking shoes is enough to see and experience everything. Take a walk through the historic villages of Zweeloo and Aalden or participate in a nature walk or themed excursion.
