Camping de Berken is a comfortable 4 star campsite with an intimate character in the Dutch province of Drenthe. The campsite is located in the town of Gasselte, at the heart of the Hondsrug sand ridge between the charming cities of Groningen, Assen and Emmen. Surrounded on all sides by nature, our campsite borders the unique nature reserve ‘Het Drouwenerzand’. This area of Drenthe is great for camping! Whether you come with your caravan, campervan, pop-up camper or tent, you’ll always find your favourite spot at Camping de Berken. Don’t have your own camping equipment? You can hire your own hiker’s cabin, Berken studio or a fully equipped Rental chalet! The Dutch travellers’ association ANWB has given our camping in Drenthe a 4-star rating!

The excellent network of bike paths makes this region of Drenthe ideal for exploring by bike. The campsite connects seamlessly to this bike path network.

Caravans welcome again on the nature pitches from 28 August
Good news!
From 28 August, caravans are once again welcome on the nature pitches at Camping de Berken. Enjoy peace, space and camping on the edge of the forest in Drenthe.

Great campsite for young and old.
A beautiful campsite with super-friendly and attentive staff who go out of their way to make your stay special and help wherever needed.
The grounds are beautifully maintained, with excellent pitches offering plenty of privacy. A great place for young and old.
What really stands out is the always clean sanitary facilities. We had a fantastic holiday.

A wonderfully beautiful and child-friendly campsite!
Child-friendly, with lovely playgrounds with water and sand throughout the campsite, suitable for all ages, an indoor playground, large pitches with clear pitch numbers, friendly staff, the option to hire private sanitary facilities, high-quality sanitary buildings, very hot water for washing up, and excellent overall cleanliness. There is no swimming pool or swimming lake on the campsite itself, but there is one close to the campsite. Ideal for us with 3 toddlers, no stress for grandma and grandad.
The holiday homes are nicely integrated amongst the camping pitches, while it remains an easy-to-navigate, peaceful and relatively small campsite. Nature surrounds the campsite, with 3 different ways to walk straight into the forest, heathland or sand dunes.

Super-clean campsite with large pitches
Normally, when I visit a campsite, there are always pitches where I think, ‘I wouldn’t want to stay there!’ At this campsite, that is almost impossible: all the pitches are spacious and beautifully situated! I stayed on a Comfort XL pitch because I really like having my own water tap and picnic table. I travel with a tent.
The sanitary facilities are spotless, absolutely nothing to complain about (I didn’t even see a single cobweb anywhere, not even on the ceiling outside). It’s also great that there is a family shower, so several family members can shower at the same time. There is plenty of entertainment for younger children, while for older kids there is, among other things, the nearby forest, a table tennis table and pétanque. Our 10-year-old had a great time.
The campsite is very close to the lake ’t Nije Hemelriek, which is highly recommended on warm days. We had great fun on the obstacle course there. There is also plenty for everyone to do in the surrounding area.
In short: highly recommended!

Perhaps the best campsite in the Netherlands
Once again, we had a fantastic week at Camping de Berken. (Our 4th year in a row.)
The spacious pitch on the tent field is always a great place to stay. The sanitary facilities are really excellent, everything is neat and clean. The campsite is easy to keep an eye on, which is really nice for us and our children.

I have never experienced a campsite with children looking so neat and tidy, and the sanitary building in particular is absolutely spotless.
