Eext

Camping De Berken is located about 7 kilometers from the center of Eext, which is about a 10-minute car ride or a 20-minute bike ride through the restful nature of Drenthe.

The history of Eext

Eext has a history dating back to the early Middle Ages. The name “Eext” probably comes from the Old Dutch word “Es”, meaning a higher piece of land. Eext is a beautiful characteristic brink village with about 1,500 inhabitants. The village has seven village greens, three dolmens and you will find an old church and beautiful historic farms.Those who want to know everything about the history of Eext can visit village museum De Kluis at Middenstraat 3 in Eext.

Tourist activities in Eext

In Eext you will find hunebed D13, in a park on the Stationsstraat. This is a unique hunebed because it is partially still hidden under a sand mound. The hunebed is a step grave and is also called Stemberg.

Dorpsmuseum De Kluis in Eext is a small, local museum that highlights the history and village life of Eext and the surrounding region in Drenthe. Housed in an old farmhouse, the museum offers a glimpse into farm life of the past. You will find objects, tools and photographs that show the daily life of the villagers through the years. There is also a focus on the surroundings of Eext, with exhibits on archaeology and local customs. The museum has an intimate atmosphere and is run mainly by volunteers.

This route starts and ends in the village, at node 46. From there, the route runs along the nodes: 46 - 69 - 66 - 88 - 87 - 78 - 90 - 75 - 52 - 51 - 55 - 45 - 43 - 34 - 46

The route runs through the nature reserve National Park De Drentse AA. At node 88 is the Galgenveen pond.

For daily shopping in Eext, you can visit Our Store Eext on Stationsstraat at No. 14.

There are also a number of local entrepreneurs to visit. For example, the studio of Lowieke van der Heide of Veronzinsels can be visited every Friday from 11-17 hours or by appointment. She is located at Kerkstraat 7a.

Knitting and crochet lovers can visit the web store of Wolletjes en zo and pick up their package in Eext.

Those who love liqueurs can get acquainted with Marleen Schepers' liqueurs in Onze Winkel. She made four variants of 't Eexter Smokje. The liqueur is available in the flavors mocha, caramel, elderflower and chocolate. The smocks are honestly made from pure products, without a single chemical addition.

You won't find a weekly market in Eext but, supermarket Our Store Eext organizes a market in Eext twice a year. In spring, a spring market under the name Flower Market.

There are several eateries and restaurants in the beautiful Drenthe Esdorp.

Eetcafé Homan is a trendy village pub with a varied menu and a wide choice of dishes with the flavors of the season. You can also go here for exclusive wines, the seasonal and special beers and refined whiskies. The café is open Wednesday through Sunday from 4 p.m. and can be found at 12 Main Street.

Restaurant Rikus is located in the Landhuis Hotel on Hoofdstraat 10. This restaurant cooks with the harvest of the day, fresh ingredients from the immediate area and from its own garden. The chefs provide a changing menu every day. Dinner starts between 6 and 9 p.m.
