By choosing our child-friendly campsite in Drenthe, you are choosing an adventurous holiday in your own country. On the campsite itself, children will find endless opportunities to have fun. There are lovely playgrounds and we have a fantastic crafts loft. We would also like to draw your attention to our recreational programme, which is not the same every day. In addition, of course, there is plenty to do outside the campsite. If there is one province where children will not be bored, it is Drenthe. This is our Top 10.
1. Roaming past dolmens
In Drenthe, of course, you cannot miss the dolmens. There are various walking routes to experience the impressive stone formations at their best. Nature and history in one! Match the length of the walk to what the children's legs can bear. Visit the child-friendly Hunebedcentrum in Borger beforehand. Here, children can actively experience how dolmens used to be built.
2. Drouwenerzand Amusement Park
A spectacular amusement park is always popular with children. Especially when it comes to Drouwenerzand Amusement Park. The attractions are suitable for children from 3 years of age and there are both quiet play equipment and speed rides for the real daredevils. Parents will also appreciate the park, because with its special all-in formula, it is known as the cheapest amusement park in Europe.
3. Spotting gnomes
The people of Drenthe have a thing for gnomes. Just like children. Drenthe has two fantastic locations where you can still meet gnomes in the flesh. In the Realm of the Gnomes in Eext, you can meet them on exciting winding paths and watch them having fun in the woods. At Kabouterland in Exloo, you can spy on gnomes and trolls from a rabbit warren. That will be a tough choice for real gnome fans!
4. Boomkroonpad, Drouwen
Nowhere in the Netherlands will you find so much nature and hiking opportunities as in the Hondsrug nature reserve in Drenthe. A very special way to experience nature is walking across the Boomkroonpad. You walk at a great height, literally along the treetops. In the outdoor centre of the same name you will find everything you want to know about nature in Drenthe. Close by is Speelbos Lorken.
5. Sprookjeshof amusement park
In the charming market town of Zuidlaren is a true children's paradise: Attractiepark Sprookjeshof. Feel free to spend a day there, as there is plenty to do indoors and outdoors. In the play hall, children will not have enough fun in the Gnome Scramble Castle. In the fairytale forest, Hansel and Gretel and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs come to life. Prefer to cuddle animals? You can do so in the petting zoo where 'Old MacDonald' welcomes the little ones.
6. Sliding and splashing
When the sun shines, there is nothing better than spending a day together at the water's edge. Active and relaxed at the same time. Drenthe has not only heath and woods, but also beautiful ponds. Playpond 't Nije Hemelriek and swimming lake 't Gasselterveld are only 3 km away and are certainly a must-do during a holiday at our campsite in Drenthe. And of course Drenthe has a record number of child-friendly swimming pools, often with spectacular slides. Swimming in Drenthe knows no boundaries.
7. Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen
Not an animal park, but an animal adventure park. That is the only fitting description for this great park where observing animals is a true experience. From towers and rope bridges you conquer the jungle and get lost in the Bamboo Maze. You can go to the Sahara or on an expedition to the polar regions. The motto is: don't look but discover. A must for all kids who dream of Freek Vonk's job.
8. Joytime Leisure Activities Grolloo
Children love to romp around. At Joytime Leisure Activities in Grolloo, they can do just that. From archery to raft building in the Outdoor Experience Park or from the obstacle course to the cableway in the Climbing Park Grolloo - there is always something to do here for young and old. Awarded by the ANBW as the best outing in Drenthe in 2022!
9. Plopsa Indoor Coevorden
Plopsa Indoor amusement park in Coevorden is perhaps the most versatile indoor activity park in the Netherlands. The number of attractions is enormous. And that is guaranteed to produce happy faces. Gnome Plop, K3, Mega Mindy and Bumba - all the famous friends are ready to give your children the day of their lives. There is also plenty to do outside. Highly recommended.
10. Ellert and Brammert open-air museum, Schoonoord
At first sight they look evil, the giant duo Ellert and Brammert, but they are essentially good guys. The story goes that they used to go on raids in Schoonoord and the surrounding area. Now they keep watch at a child-friendly open-air museum that tells the history of the region. Here you will experience how people in the former Drenthe lived, lived and worked. A playground and petting zoo complete the experience.
