We can look back on a beautiful and busy season with changing weather. By the way, it is always nice to experience that children don't care about that. They go on adventures anyway, weather or no weather. And if it is too much for them, many campsites also offer indoor activities. We have our indoor playground and craft loft for that and they make good use of it.

The fact that we have had a good season, with days on which all the pitches were occupied, fits in with the general picture that camping is all the rage again. It seemed to become less common, but everything shows that the Dutch are back in the mood. There are no current figures for this year, but last year, various studies showed that the number of motor homes and caravans sold is steadily increasing.

Families with children are enthusiastic campers

The many camping shops in the Netherlands are also doing good business again. The upward trend started in 2016 and continues. What is the most important customer group of the many camping shops? It will not surprise you. They are young families with children. Understandable. As parents, you know that children always enjoy themselves at a campsite. And when children have the holiday of a lifetime, you as parents also enjoy your well-earned freedom.

Because that, of course, is the essence of camping: freedom. You really get away from it all and adopt a different rhythm. You are outside most of the day and meet other people. You are in an environment that gives you energy and where every day holds new surprises. Get away from the daily grind without sacrificing comfort. Because that is the beauty of a modern, well-maintained campsite. The comfort level is hardly inferior to that at home.

Camping in or near nature reserves

There is another trend. More and more Dutch people are opting for a camping holiday in their own country. This also applies particularly to families with young children. They rediscover that there is enough to do in the Netherlands and increasingly prefer a nearby camping destination to a tiring day in the car with the risk of holiday traffic jams.

According to the latest figures, the ratio between camping at home and camping abroad is fifty-fifty. The touring caravan is the most popular, followed by the chalet/bungalow. The camper is in third place. Both abroad and in the Netherlands, more and more campers opt for the convenience of a fully equipped rental tent. It almost goes without saying that you can also rent a chalet in Drenthe.

A final development that pleases us is that campers who choose a luxury campsite in their own country prefer locations in or close to nature reserves. A condition is that there is enough to do for the children. A good reason to choose Drenthe. And to round off our story of comfort and convenience: reservations can be made from the comfort of your own home via the Internet.
