Do you have a dog and are going on holiday? A holiday abroad involves a lot of arranging. If you choose not to take the dog with you, a boarding or babysitting address is necessary. If you do take the dog with you, you will soon have to think about the right vaccinations and procedures, especially when you go abroad. Also, a long (car) journey can be uncomfortable for the dog. Fortunately, many campsites in the Netherlands now allow you to bring your four-legged friend along! Like at campsite de Berken in Gasselte in Drenthe.
Can you bring your dog to the campsite?
Many campsites allow you to bring your dog along. This is often clearly indicated, because sometimes it differs per site whether a dog is allowed or not. At our campsite, dogs are welcome everywhere. Outside the campsite there is space to let your dog out and on the campsite itself he should always be on a leash. In addition, we take extra account of the possible presence of pets in our Berken-Studios and Rental-chalets with dog.
Travelling safely with your dog
The most important thing is that a pet is as comfortable as possible while travelling. Fortunately, the Netherlands is actually always manageable in terms of travel distance. The longest distance you can travel within Dutch borders is around 300 kilometres, and that is from the furthest north to the furthest southern tip. The average travel distance for a holiday within the Netherlands will be far below that, and will therefore be most comfortable for your pet as well. Most dogs are not too fond of driving (with exceptions). Fortunately, camping De Berken is located in Gasselte in Drenthe, easily accessible from all directions.
A special transport bench comes in handy not only on the road, but also at the campsite. After all, a crate also serves as a sleeping place and is a familiar point for your dog to rest comfortably in a perhaps strange place.

If you come camping at camping de Berken, dogs are allowed (on all pitches, and in our two-person Berkenstudio and rental chalets with dog). Poop bags are available on site.
The nature reserves in Drenthe are insanely beautiful. Outside the campsite there are plenty of places where you can walk your dog. In some areas he must be kept on a leash, but there are also areas where he can run free, have a good run and really enjoy himself! For example, go for a walk in Geopark de Hondsrug, one of the remnants of mega-glaciers from the Ice Age. Now an area of heathland and green, hilly landscape with lots to see and lots to do.
There are plenty of footpaths around the campsite where you can walk your dog, but if you like to cycle with your dog, you can also do so here!
